1st week of IT is over!!!!!!

Let me repeat, 1st week is OVER!!!!!! Only left 11 weeks to go...haha..Let's review the 1st week of my industrial training. Hmmm....i have learned much ado about the foundation theory which included mainly of piling and sheet pile wall. Just got to know that there's 2 types of piles which are starters and extensions. Starters are used to pentrate the ground/soil while the extensions are attached on top of the starters. Hmm...i used to think that piles are made to the required length and just do the piling process. Stupid of me to think that because the depth of the hard surface from the top soil is very deep. How could they transfer the piles if they're made exactly the required length. So...1 more knowledge gained from this training. Besides that, i could see the machineries which are required to do the piling process. They're very big and very noisy (people may need to shout at me after the training so i can hear them >.<). Sheet pile walls uses different type of equipment than the piles for the piling process. I have also managed to watch concreting process for the very 1st time. They primarily used Lafarge company's concrete for this process. It was concreting for a whole area of 9 meters by around 6 or 7 meters (sorry for the uncertainty). When the Lafarge trucks arrived, the 1st thing that is requested of them is to conduct a slump test and also cube test. The slump must be 75 mm +/- 25 mm (not less than 50 mm or more than 100 mm). If i'm not wrong, slump test is to measure the workability of the concrete mix. The procedures for both of the tests are the same as what we did in the university's laboratory. Nice to know that what we learn in uni is being used in the outside world as well. These are the major things which i have observed throughout this 1st week of my industrial training. Hopefully, more knowledge will be gained the following weeks. Keep smiling and be positive. =D
